Just after the turn of the century, in the rear of the Cohn family home on George Street in New Haven, Joseph Cohn began his painting business. From this one room operation the Cohn business would flourish. In 1943, Joseph's son, Joel, decided to join his father in building the family's painting and restoration business. As the business expanded, the Cohns moved to bigger and better quarters to give their customers the best possible service.
Today, Joseph Cohn & Son, Inc. is prospering in its third generation. Led by Betsy Henley-Cohn, Joseph Cohn & Son is the largest family-owned painting and restoration contractor serving Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. The company's reputation for professional and superior service has grown with each succeeding generation.

As a member of the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association, we hold excellent standard of workmanship and professionalism. Joseph Cohn and Son is one of the leading terrazzo contractors in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Terrazzo is a composite material poured in place or precast which is used for floors and wall treatments. It consists of marble, quartz, granite, glass or other suitable chips, mixed with a matrix (binder) that is cementitious or epoxy. Terrazzo is poured, cured and ground and polished to a smooth or otherwise finished to a uniformly textured surface.
The restoration Division breathes life back into old buildings. With our own equipment we sandblast old paint from steel walls or wood ceilings. Our masonry team moves in and goes to work, cutting out joints and repointing entire walls. Next, special coatings may be used to insure a fireproof and waterproof building. With a fresh coat of paint, mixed to your specifications, a historical building is refurbished to its former glory.
